A “C” Grade College Project Launches Our Founder into Business that Becomes a Franchise Opportunity
It was 2012 and Matt Khouri had to finish his senior project as part of his University of North Carolina-Wilmington graduation requirements. He had the idea that would earn a mediocre grade but would become the basis for an A+ business, the Outer Banks Boil Company, which is now a nation-wide Franchise opportunity.
His idea was to replicate his family’s beach tradition, steaming up a huge pot of potatoes, fresh corn, andouille sausage and shrimp, then pouring it out on the covered table – which always earned “ooohs” and “aaaahs” – as friends and family gathered to eat together. A simple meal that created memories to last a lifetime.
Those beach parties were legendary, but the opportunity Matt saw was the stuff dreams are made of today.
Even though Matt didn’t receive an A on his senior project, he was an aspiring entrepreneur, and a natural host. Combining these traits with a dedication to his clients inspired him to take his business plan and put it into action. The rest, as they say, is history.
We aim to replicate a family beach tradition creating a unique dining experience with some good ole fashioned fun. Our mission is to provide beach-goers and locals not just a meal, but a memory.
Our franchise owners, based our own experience, will be able to enjoy benefits of the alternative dining offerings we have created for our clients – both on and off the beach.

Initial Franchise Training for Outer Banks Boil Company owners lasts 45 hours and is conducted on the Outer Banks barrier island in North Carolina. Our pre-opening training program covers comprehensive topics including Operations, Marketing, Financial Management, and Managing the Business. We offer additional in-territory training and support in your shop once you are ready to open. From there, we make sure that you are prepared to run on your own.
