Frequently asked questions
What are the startup costs and what do they include?
Currently the range of investment is from $75,000 to $175,000 which includes the $30,000 initial franchise fee. The rest of the estimated costs include expenses to fit out your Outer Banks Boil Company shop, 3 rd party professional advisory fees, insurance and 3-months of working capital.
How long does it take to open?
This depends how quickly you find a location for your location. We help owners evaluate real estate and offer our guidance to help with the nominal fit out of your Outer Banks Boil Company shop. Once you sign your lease, you should be able to open in as few as 2 to 3 months.
How big is a retail lease space? (I may have the ideal location!)
Typically just 700 to 1,100 square foot space is needed for the shop. Basic kitchen set up may help speed up fit out, too. You don’t have to have an ideal spot; we help with that! (But if you do, send us the details and we will review.)
DOES MY SITE FIT THE REQUIREMENTS?
Do I have to be an Owner Operator?
Ideally, yes, but some of our owners will hire a General Manager and delegate day-to-day operations while focusing on marketing and client development.
Can I own more than one shop? What is the investment?
Sure! We encourage multi-unit ownership if it is right for both you and us. The main difference is initial territory fee, reduced to $25,000 for the 2 nd and to $20,000 for the 3 rd and subsequent territories. Check out our investment table, as each of the shops require the same essential set up and fit out. We own multiple locations and qualified candidates can, too.
How many people does it take to run the shop?
If you are an Owner Operator, you will start with about 2 to 5 team members who will round out your team. Many of the shops operate today with a combination of part-time and full-time staffers adding team members as needed with growth.
How much can my shop make in revenue?
Only you can truly answer that question, but we will give you some more detailed information to help you make an assessment. Pre-qualified candidates will receive our Financial Performance Representation, called an Item 19 in our Franchise Disclosure Document which highlights affiliate performance and history.
